Ukraine plans to resow winter crops areas throughout nearly 2.5 -3 mln ha in the spring. According to Nikolai Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the situation with winter crops sowings is not very critical, because in some previous years agrarians managed to resow even 6 mln ha of winter crops.
However, in some oblasts - Lugansk, Zaporozhye, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Nikolayev and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, where snow cover is absent or too small, agrarians need to resow large-scale areas.
The Ministry decided to increase sowing areas under maize by 1 mln ha, as well as for spring barley and wheat. The decision was influenced by the demand on foreign markets for these crops, because Ukraine became the world leader in exports of these grains last year,-informed N.Prysiazhnyuk.
The Minister also noted that despite the current situation with winter crops sowings, the threat of food crisis still did not appear, and the dynamics of growth for grain prices in the country is not observed.
The record indices of last year harvest create the strategic reserve for Ukraine, which will not be significantly influenced by the harvest of the current marketing year, said N.Prysiazhnyuk.
