The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine increased own forecast for resowing of winter crops sowings for the harvest-2012 by 0.5- 1 mln ha - to the level of 3.5 mln ha, declared Nikolai Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy, on February 14.

According to the Ministry, in the spring agrarians will resow winter grains throughout nearly 3 mln ha, and industrial crops, including winter rapeseed, throughout the areas of nearly 0.5 mln ha.

The Minister found difficult to forecast the certain volume of grain harvest in the current year, noting that the forecast will be in March, after the end of wintering of agricultural crops sowings.

Previously, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food increased its forecast of possible resowing of winter crops from the level of 2 mln ha to 2.5-3 mln ha. However, according to the Ministry, it will be possible to assess the condition of winter crops sowings and the preliminary damage after the increase of air temperatures only.

According the State Statistics Service, Ukraine sowed winter crops for grain and green fodder, including rapeseed, for the harvest of 2012 throughout the areas of 9.4 mln ha, an increase of 1.9% compared to the harvest of 2011. The sowing areas under winter grains increased by 3 8% to the level of 8.4 mln ha.
