Every year Ukraine continues increasing the planted areas and production volumes of soybeans, declared Nikolai Prysyazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, on November 5.
According to him, as of to date agrarians harvested 2.3 mln tonnes of the oilseed throughout the areas of 1.3 mln ha. The general expected harvest will total 2.3 mln tonnes, including 1.7 mln tonnes at the sum of 1.1 bln UAH to be exported.
Thus, Ukraine will keep its position in the list of TOP-10 of countries-exporters of soybeans, and continue conquering the markets of Asia and the European Union, said the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
The Minister also said that since the beginning of the marketing year Ukrainian agricultural producers already exported over 300 thsd tonnes of soybeans, up 2.5 times compared to the same period last year. In particular, in October 2012 Ukraine exported 120 thsd tonnes of soybeans.
N.Prysyazhnyuk also added that in Ukraine the number of agricultural producers engaged in cultivation of soybeans is constantly growing. To date almost 7 thsd agricultural households grow soybeans using modern technologies, and 162 specialized households and 17 originators of seed varieties provide the need in seeds. Nearly 200 enterprises are engaged in processing of soybeans.
At the same time, due to high-yield soybean varieties, agrarians can more effectively use the planted areas. For example, until 2015 it is planned to gradually increase the areas under soybean to 2 mln ha, and increase soybean production to 4 mln tonnes.
