In January-July, the Ukrainian ports increased cargo processing - USPA

In January-July of 2017, the Ukrainian sea ports processed 76.2 mln tonnes of cargoes, an increase of 3.3% compared with the same period of 2016, reported the State Enterprise Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) on August 9.

According to the Head at the USPA, Raivis Veckagans, it is quite possible to talk about the established trends on the market. The general dynamics of shipments is positive, and the whole year will demonstrate a surplus in the segment. Traditionally, agricultural products, mining and metallurgical products, food products formed the basis of cargo turnover.

In particular, the transshipment of export cargoes in the Ukrainian seaports totaled 58.1 mln tonnes (up 3.6% compared with the similar period in 2016), and import cargoes - 10.9 mln tonnes (up 18.8%).

At the same time, grains continued its upward trend - 22.3 mln tonnes (up 17%), as well as vegetable oils - 3.3 mln tonnes (up 32%).

According to the announcement, Sea Commercial Port of Yuzhny demonstrated large-scale volumes of cargo handling - 25.3 mln tonnes (up 6.4%), followed by Odessa Commercial Sea Port - 13.8 mln tonnes (up 1.1%), and Sea Commercial Port of Mykolaiv - 13.1 mln tonnes (up 5.9%). The specialized sea port Olvia showed the most significant growth at 32%, with the general cargo volume at almost 4 mln tonnes.
