In the first half of 2017, Ukraine increased the exports of agricultural and food products - Institute of Agrarian Economics

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in January-June of 2017 the exports of agricultural and food products from the country totaled 8.77 bln USD, an increase of almost 2 bln USD (up 28%) compared with the first half year in 2016, reported the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics" NAASU on July 25.

Grain crops, oilseeds, vegetable oils (mainly sunflower oil), and products of the processing industries remained the determining positions in the commodity structure of the domestic agricultural and food exports. Their combined share formed 90% of the exports, noted the Deputy Director at the Center, Nikolai Pugachev.

In the current year, three regions of the world were the main sales markets - Asia, Africa and the EU, which covered 90% of the Ukrainian exports. At the same time, Asian countries kept the position of the main importer, and in January-June of 2017 they purchased Ukrainian products at 3.5 bln USD. Their share covered 39.8% of the general agricultural exports.

The European Union covered nearly one third of the domestic agricultural exports - 31.8%, and purchased Ukrainian agricultural and food products at 2.8 bln USD. The export volumes to African countries reached 1.6 bln USD - 18.2%.

Also, Ukraine somewhat increased the exports of agricultural products to the CIS countries, which in several previous years demonstrated a steady decline. In January-June of 2017, countries of the region imported Ukrainian products at 0.6 bln USD, or 6.8% of the export structure, stressed N.Pugachev.

Also, he added that 7 countries provided more than 50% of export earnings in the market segment. In the reporting period, India traditionally headed the rating of countries-importers of Ukrainian agricultural products, which purchased the products at 1.035 bln USD. Egypt took the second position, and imported agricultural products from Ukraine at 862 mln USD. Also, Ukrainian exporters received significant revenues from the Netherlands (589 mln USD), Spain (584 mln USD), Turkey (485 mln USD), Italy (439 mln USD), and China (435 mln USD).
